What we offerVolvo Car Group is looking for a Public Affairs Officer to join its EU Office in Brussels, Belgium. The Office forms part of Volvo Cars’ Public Affairs team with colleagues in Sweden (Gothenburg and Stockholm) and the US (Washington D.C). The position reports to Volvo Cars’ Head of Public Affairs while the responsibility for the daily work and duties is managed by the Public Affairs Director in Brussels.
This exciting opportunity will give the successful candidate the chance to join a dynamic, fast changing company, to engage with EU policies and processes and to help promote Volvo Cars’ interests and business in Europe and beyond. Public Affairs is part of Volvo Car Group’s Communications department, reporting to the company’s Chief Communications Officer, Olivia Ross-Wilson.
What you’ll do
The Public Affairs Officer will be responsible for a wide range of tasks, supporting the office’s work as well as performing administrative duties. We are looking for a candidate ready to take initiatives and perform actions to influence various policy processes, in line with our company’s corporate strategies and business targets. The Public Affairs Officer will need to engage in new as well as established networks. Also, the role should seek and propose opportunities for the company to engage in relevant policy processes and stand ready to facilitate relevant dialogues in connection with these.
In this role you will also:
- Monitor and identify policy developments and legislative proposals, relevant issues and decisions in the EU and key European markets that affect Volvo Cars.
- Develop and advocate legislative, regulatory, and public policy positions in close collaboration with Volvo Cars experts.
- Drafting briefing materials, memos, position papers and presentations for stakeholders, regulators, and senior management.
- Participate in and represent VCC in meetings held by EU institutions, trade associations (e.g. Platform for Electromobility) and other relevant stakeholders.
- Provide support to VCC Belgium in PA-related issues, including organization of visits by stakeholders and decision-makers to the production facility in Ghent.
What you’ll bring
As a person you are great in communication, analysis and have both diplomatic- and organizational skills. You also have experience from and/or excellent knowledge of European Union politics and the EU decision-making structure, in particular regulatory and legal processes. More important is that you have interest in, and understanding of, transport issues. If you have experience within automotive and manufacturing issues, it’s meritorious. You need to be able to work independently. We also see you as fulfilling these criteria –
- Bachelor's degree required
- Flexibility to travel.
- Excellent command of the English language – verbal and written,
- Knowledge of Swedish is an advantage, as well as command of Dutch, French and/or German.
